How membership works in a household
One membership covers both of you. If you already pay for your own, joining a household doesn't cancel it.
Updated November 5, 2026
- One person's membership gives both of you full access. It doesn't matter which of you pays.
- In Settings, the person who doesn't pay sees “You have access through household sharing.”
- Only the person who pays can change or cancel the membership, from wherever they bought it.
- If that membership ends, you both lose member access. You can still leave, or remove someone, without a membership.
If you already have your own membership
Joining a household doesn't cancel it, and it isn't refunded automatically. If you don't want to pay for both, cancel yours where you bought it. See Change or cancel your membership.
