This is my favorite bagel order in New York. You can make NY-style bagels or pick some up at the store, then customize as you see fit. Want more crisp freshness? Add herbs or cucumber slices. Want it a bit creamier and more substantial? Avocado isn’t traditional, but so good here.

Ingredients
Bagel sandwich
- bagels1
- smoked salmon2-3 slices
- cream cheese
- red onions, sliced
- tomatoes, sliced
Additional toppings
- fresh dill, chopped
- capers
Method
Step 1: Assemble sandwich
After toasting the bagel, slice it in half. Spread the cream cheese, to preference, on both sides of the bagel. Place slices of salmon or lox on the bottom of the bagel, followed by the red onion and tomatoes. If desired, add some fresh dill or capers on top of the salmon and close.
Optionally wrap in foil or parchment paper to compress the sandwich like it's done at a deli. Enjoy.
