Leftover Braised Meat Banh Mi
This can be made with any leftover braised meat, or use the included beef recipe.
I recommend making braised meat ahead of time and keeping portions in the freezer for instances like this. Once you have some braised meat on hand, making a quick banh mi style sandwich could not be easier. All you need is some bread, a few veggies, some pantry staples, and it’ll come together in minutes.

Method
Step 1: Braise the meat
Salt & season the meat and set the oven to 300°F/148°C.
Add a spoonful of oil to a dutch oven. Add the meat and it on all sides until a nice brown crust forms.
Add enough beef broth to almost submerge the meat, and bring it to a simmer. Cover and transfer to the oven to until tender for 5-7 hours.
Step 2: Crisp the beef & prep the roll
Pull the beef out and shred it up.
- Place it in containers to use on various dishes throughout the week.
Set a pan over medium-high heat and add some of the braised meat. Once the meat is starting to crisp up, add a squirt of sriracha, a squirt of hoisin sauce, and lastly, a couple of shakes of Maggi seasoning.
Slice your bread roll, if needed (and optionally toast).
Step 3: Assemble the sandwich
Spread both sides of your roll with Kewpie mayo. Next add two long slices of cucumber, before adding the crisped meat, the cilantro, and lastly, the pickled carrots and/or jalapeños. Enjoy!
