
Homemade Whataburger
Texas’s famous fast food chain burger, at home.

Ingredients
Beef patties
- 80/20 ground beef, divided225 g1/2 lb
- salta sprinkle
- white peppera sprinkle
Remaining burger components
- hamburger buns1
- tomato puree, sliced2 slices
- onions, diceda handful
- iceberg lettuce, shreddeda handful
- pickles2-4
- mustardto taste
- frozen friesfor serving
Method
Step 1: Start fries & prep toppings
Chop & gather all burger toppings. Start the French fries using your preferred cooking method (air fryer, oven, etc).
While those cook, make the burger.
Step 2: Shape & sear the patties
Divide the ground meat into two ~112 g (1/4 lb) balls. Press & shape each into a thin & wide patty, then season with salt & pepper.
Preheat a griddle over high heat until smoking. Add both patties and until well on one side. Flip to finish cooking the patties through.
Step 3: Assemble & serve
Toast the buns, if desired. Add a generous squiggle of mustard to each side of the bun.
Layer on both cooked patties, and then top with onions, pickles, tomatoes, and lettuce.
Close the bun & enjoy with your cooked fries.
